Being stuck at home listening to the grating, repetitive sounds of Roblox emanating from your child’s i-pad gets old quick. Real quick. Typically, many of us would be finalizing our summer plans right about now, but this year, many camps and vacations have been canceled. Just like that, it seems even those obligatory annual pilgrimages will be missed.
In lieu of traveling, we’re dreaming. According to the insurance plan provider, InsureMyTrip, who analyzed Google search data, the destinations Americans are most itching to get to … the Maldives. Around 18,100 people logged on to get lost in photos of the island.
Greece is second on the list with Fiji rounding out the top 3.
It’s not a huge surprise that white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and tropical breezes would be beckoning to us right now. In fact, nearly half of the destinations in the top 10 are in the Caribbean. But the list does diversify as it goes on, with Iceland, Switzerland, Ireland and Japan landing in the top 20. The majority of residents itching to get out are from Nevada, Illinois and Washington, while those researching staycations live in Hawaii, Alaska and Montana.
“This data clearly suggests a strong desire to travel again when the timing is right,” says InsureMyTrip’s Ronni Kenoian. “During these unprecedented times, travelers are dreaming about these “wishlist” destinations and it’s exciting to see where the imagination is taking us.”
‘Till then, there are plenty of virtual destinations to explore and although they’ll never replace the in person experience, the best part is not having to worry about packing, planning or flight delays.
