Nursing homes have been some of the hardest hit by the Coronavirus. In an effort to keep residents safe, many facilities have stopped allowing visitors, but that has taken a toll. Seniors, stuck inside without those much loved visits from friends and family, are feeling the effects of isolation.
Some of the caretakers, heartbroken at the sight of solitude, have taken matters into their own hands. Staff at North Pointe Archdale, part of the Victorian Senior Care community, snapped a few photos of residents asking for pen pals and posted them on Facebook.
Our friends at North Pointe of Archdale are needing Pen Pals!! Find a friend, write them a letter and send it to the address listed below with their name as the recipient. We cant wait to hear from you! #VSCPenPals

The response, which touched hearts all over the world, has been overwhelming. From teachers offering to have their students write to excited respondents sharing stories of how much pen pals have meant to them, the story is one reminder of the light that humanity has the power to shine through the current darkness.
Similarly, campaigns like “Adopt a Grandparent” through CHD Living and the Miami startup, Papa, referred to as “grandkids on demand,” by CEO Andrew Parker, have figured out how to effectively pivot to fully virtual programs.
Shaleeza Hasham, the Head of Hospitality, Communications & Commissioning at CHD Living told ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “What we found is the benefits for everybody involved are quite phenomenal.” Adding that she hopes the program is “sustained far past what is happening right now with coronavirus.”
